State Representative B.J. Pak on Driven to Business
B.J. Pak was born in Seoul, Korea, the youngest child of a police detective and a homemaker. In the early 1980s when B.J. was nine years old, his family immigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American dream of higher education and prosperity. The family arrived in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida where B.J.’s father found work bagging groceries and washing dishes at a Red Lobster restaurant to support the family. Over the years, the family was able to scrape together enough money to open a small grocery store where B.J. worked as young man.
B.J. served as a Federal prosecutor for 6 years, and then ran for the Georgia House of Representatives. B.J., ran as an outsider, and most politically savvy people thought he had no chance. But B.J. and his family ran a strong grass roots campaign, and won a tough election.
B.J. has been a popular legislator, and is a great guest. B.J.’s business and legal background gives him a unique perspective on the problems facing Georgia, the nation, and its business community. B.J. is a Partner at the Atlanta law office of Ballard Spahr LLP
Don’t miss this interview.. B.J. appears on Driven to Business on Saturday August 2nd at 11 AM.

Simply the best business radio in Atlanta.. Driven to Business!
A fireside chat with Eddie Mayfield
I spend much of our broadcast time here on Driven to Business interviewing people from a variety of backgrounds on subjects that I trust are interesting to our listeners. I recorded a program that’s a more laid back, fireside type, chat about business, growth, leadership, and marketing. Much of it is taken from my own experiences.
I find many small business people to be discouraged. As I once heard “One Minute Manager” author Ken Blanchard ask.. “who is just sick to death of encouragement?”
I started the program off by recalling some concepts from a great book by Mark Richardson, “How Fit is Your Business?” One of his precepts of being a fit business is to accept the NEW normal. Far too many of us in business keep thinking that the difficult new times we find ourselves in are somehow temporary, and are awaiting a return to what we found familiar and comfortable in the past. For most businesses however, NOW is normal, and it’s not only discouraging to you and your team to keep looking back, it can be fatal to your company if you keep it up. The 90’s are gone, and you can’t bring them back.
And, it doesn’t matter if you’re big, small, profit, or non-profit. You MUST regain a sense of direction, purpose, and optimism.
Businesses thrive in all sorts of environments. I spend most of this program encouraging and giving some practical hints to those of you holding leadership positions. Your career and business can not only survive, but thrive, regardless of what the national economy is or isn’t doing.
I think you’ll enjoy this program. Give it a listen .

Eddie Mayfield: A little business chat
I spend much of our broadcast time here on Driven to Business interviewing people from a variety of backgrounds on subjects that I trust are interesting to our listeners. I recorded a program set to air on Saturday July 26th that’s a more laid back, fireside type, chat about business, growth, leadership, and marketing. Much of it is taken from my own experiences.

The 90’s are gone, and you can’t bring them back. I also talk a bit about Peter Bourke’s excellent book.. Unselling. (Hit the link) Peter does a great job of explaining why traditional sales techniques may just not work for you, and suggests a better approach.

Attorney Jason Thompson
Jason Thompson is an attorney, businessman, and a political activist. Jason serves as the GOP chairman of the 7th Congressional District here in Georgia. Jason heads up the Thompson Law Firm in Duluth.
Jason became interested in politics when as a young man, he had a chance meeting with the late Jack Kemp. His interest in politics led to his interest in law.
Driven to Business attempts to avoid being overtly political, but we do find the “business” of politics interesting. Eddie has talked often on the program about the similarity between identifying and capturing votes to identifying, landing, and keeping customers. Jason gives a great inside view of the political landscape, the practice of law, and American business.
Jason has a great sense of humor, and is not averse to making controversial and politically incorrect statements. You’ll enjoy this program. You may not agree with him on everything, but you’ll enjoy him.
Jason is a delightful and knowledgeable guest.

Jeremy Dys, The Liberty Institute
Jeremy Dys is the senior counsel with the Liberty Institute (see libertyinstitute.org ) .
The Hobby Lobby case decided this week by the Supreme Court is just one example of issues surrounding religious liberty.
For those tempted to say, “I’m not interested in religion, I just want to run my business,” Jeremy makes a great case, that attacks on religious liberty are the first step to attacks on all liberty, including the freedom to own and operate a business.
And, those attacks are relentless and continuing.
Listen as Eddie and Jeremy discuss the Hobby Lobby case in detail, as well as other cases, and the principles and issues that go along with freedom.
This is an upbeat and interesting discussion, and you’ll not want to miss it. Great guest, Jeremy Dys– and a great show.
